To provide a brief explanation: we divide the catch evenly among the hunters in the team. The highest average determines the winner. But never forget, every Lionfish off the reef is already a win! What a great achievement to all hunters!

Now, let's talk about the only hiccup in this otherwise fantastic day – one brave soul ended up in the hospital with 34 stitches. She was taken by wave while getting out of the water and hit the sharp North Shore rocks with her ear and head. Strong and crazy as she is, she did come to Lionfish Caribbean to bring her fish and went to the hospital after that. She was up and running the next day and is doing great again!
Let’s take it as a lesson: a reminder that while the derby is a thrilling challenge, safety always comes first. The power of the ocean and the waves is something we have to obey!

The event was a testament to the commitment of the participants and the importance of controlling the lionfish population. With every catch, they contribute to the preservation of our unique underwater world. Plus, it's a great way to enjoy a day by the sea, making new friends, and doing something good for the environment.

So, kudos to everyone who took part in the Curacao Lionfish Derby – you're not just fish hunters, you're ocean heroes! Here's to more fun, more fish, and more adventures in the name of conservation.
