See here, the very first Lionfish earrings, made beginning of 2016. Back then Lisette was protecting the ocean as a fulltime professional Lionfish huntress, but found out that it was physically very hard to make a living from that alone. She had to find more ways to make the hard work worthwhile. The idea of earrings made of Lionfish was born.
With some hooks of an old pair of earrings, a dive tank O-ring and the pelvic fins of a Lionfish she made the first pairs.
The start
After making the first earrings the journey with Lionfish Caribbean really started in a small corner of The Diveshop Curacao, where Lisette was making lionfish jewelry and selling it to stores around the island.
After a few months this grew into a pop-up workshop downtown and later a small workshop/store in Otrobanda.
She didn’t stop there - after a few years LFC added a food truck serving lionfish dishes so peope could try the Lionfish in many different ways.
Eventually, Lionfish Caribbean grew into a store that combines education, food, and jewelry, all centered around lionfish.
Lisette and her team are still working on many more exciting plans for the future, continuing to expand their mission.
Step by step
Protecting the fragile ecosystem
of the Caribbean reefs
Our vision at Lionfish Caribbean is to reduce the lionfish population on our reefs by actively engaging communities across various islands and regions.
We plan to achieve this by adding more value to the lionfish, and creating demand that makes Lionfish a preferred catch over other fish.
